Miniature Bed and Lamp Supplies
Using the inexpensive craft materials shown in the image, you can make an
endearing dollhouse miniature bed and miniature lamp like that shown in the
inset, and add it to your collection of dollhouse furniture.
This is an easy child craft project, but a number of steps are involved in
making the bed.
|
Older children could make it without help, but you might need to help
the younger kids, especially when using a craft knife for cutting some
project materials.
The parts shown consist of:
A doll pin (optional).
A 2" wide wooden heart.
A 1 3/4" wide wooden heart.
A 1 3/4" by 2 1/2" piece of 1/8" balsa wood (optional).
Three wooden ovals or craft stick pieces 1 1/2" long.
A half-dozen 2 1/2" long craft sticks.
A 1/8" wooden dowel.
A 5/8" wooden candle cup.
A 5/8" wooden flower pot.

Making the Bed, Step One
It takes a number of steps to construct the miniature dollhouse bed, though
the steps are simple.
Cut off about 1/4" of the points of the wood shape hearts.
Cut two 1" lengths of wooden dowel, and glue across the width of the
hearts as shown, about 1/2" from the flat ends of the trimmed hearts.
|
Glue the wood craft ovals across the back of four aligned craft sticks.
Cut off the excess length of the ovals if they extend past the
craft sticks.
|
Making the Bed, Step Two
Glue the craft stick assembly between the hearts (head boards), resting
on the lengths of wooden dowel.
Note that the ovals used for holding the craft sticks together face the
pointed end of the hearts.
Glue a craft stick on each side of the miniature dollhouse bed to make side
boards (only one is shown here).
Be sure the sideboards don't extend above the base of the dollhouse bed.

Finishing the Bed and Lamp
The image at left shows the constructed furniture miniatures.
The lamp is just a 1 1/2" length of wooden dowel glued to an inverted
candle cup (the base) and the wooden craft flower pot (the lamp shade).
|
A 1/8" layer of balsa wood can be glued on top of the bed base to give
more of a mattress look as an option.
As another option, one leg of the doll pin can be cut off to the width of
the bed and glued on to make a pillow shape.
Now you have a completed set of furniture miniatures perfect for any
small doll house.

Finishing the Bed and Lamp
All that's left to do is decorate the bed and lamp as you desire.
In this
example I used paint for the basic decoration, and a bit of gold fringe to
fancy up the pillow, the base of the bed, and the lamp base.
